Sophie Perez, née Ruderman is a British born artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2003 with an MA in Painting.
In 2005 Sophie relocated to Melbourne, Australia and now resides on the Mornington Peninsula with her family; drawing inspiration from the surroundings and everyday life.
Sophie’s practice is strongly anchored in drawing. Her mark-making is evident in her paintings and she believes she draws with paint. Spending time outside observing and drawing, Sophie selects parts of the landscape that spark an emotional response, seeing colour, light and texture through her own lens. The continual learning and alchemy of oil paint is what drives Sophie to pursue this painterly obsession.
Everyday environments inform her work, living in various locations directly inspires her practice, looking for ways to portray what's around; seeing it for the first time yet evoking a distant memory of something past.
